2021 NSW COMBINED HIGH SCHOOLS TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS FRUITFUL

2021 NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) Table Tennis Championships were successfully held on 21 June 2021 at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Halls.
NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) Sports Association was established in 1889, and provides opportunities for secondary students in NSW to participate in competitive sport at the state level and above.
The NSW CHS Table Tennis Championships are organised by the NSW CHS Table Tennis Convenor, Kerrie Barton each year. As one team event, it involves 4 players in each team who are seeded so that No 1 plays the opposition No 1 and No 2 plays No 2 etc. Then doubles are played where No 1 and No 3 join together and No 2 and No 4 etc.
The format of NSW CHS Table Tennis Championships can be detailed as following:
Each team consists of four players and a reserve.
The match consists of seven matches – four singles and three doubles.
The order of play shall be as follows:
Singles:
No. 1 v No. 1
No. 2 v No. 2
No. 3 v No. 3
No. 4 v No. 4
Doubles:
No. 1 + No. 3 v No. 1 + No. 3
No. 2 + No. 4 v No. 2 + No. 4
No. 1 + No. 2 v No. 1 + No. 2
The NSW CHS Table Tennis Convenor, Kerrie Barton, said: ”We aim to promote and organise sporting championships and competitions at interstate level which have been approved by the New South Wales Department of Education. We also organise and conduct such interstate competitions and interstate / international tours as have been approved by the New South Wales Department of Education. We are responsible to the Secretary, Department of Education, and we thank Table Tennis New South Wales for their support of this event.”
Winner was Baulkham Hills High School. Silver went to Normanhurst Boys High School with Bronze to Sydney Technical High School.
Baulkham Hills survived an extremely close semi final with Sydney Technical High where they were match point down in the equalising doubles which then meant a playoff where the numbers 1 and 2 players combine against each other in one doubles match. This was won by Baulkham Hills.
Gold Medal - Baulkham Hills HS
Silver Medal - Normanhurst Boys HS
Bronze Medal - Sydney Technical HS
The competition is organised on a regional basis with the ten teams competing coming from Sydney Metropolitan area, Port Macquarie, Armidale, Wollongong, Bathurst, Goulburn and Newcastle.
The Vice President of TTNSW, Ted Davis, and the Schools Coordinator of TTNSW, Ross Abbott attended this event.
Ted said: “TTNSW is delighted that the NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) Sports Association has arranged this table tennis championships continuously. TTNSW is working closely with all the table tennis community especially with schools in NSW to promote our sport , and develop more athletes from the grassroots level to the elite level. “
Ted continued, “TTNSW is pleased to welcome Ross Abbott who has joined TTNSW to promote table tennis in NSW schools. Ross was most recently involved in the successful implementation of golf into schools in NSW. TTNSW is confident that Ross will successfully implement table tennis into schools in NSW as well.
