ELITE TABLE TENNIS CLUB AIMING HIGHER
Published Tue 14 Dec 2021
The 2021 Banks Outstanding Sporting Achievements Awards presentation ceremony was held on 11 December 2021. Hon David Coleman MP presented the awards to 8 junior players from ELITE Table Tennis Club.
He congratulated the recipients on their achievements and wished them success in the 2022 Australian Table Tennis Championships.
ELITE was founded in 2004 by Steven Lee, ITTF International Referee, PTT Competition Manager and Tony Lee, Accredited TTA Level 2 National Table Tennis Coach. Steven and Tony value the strong support from Hon David Coleman MP, the St George & Sutherland Table Tennis Association and Table Tennis New South Wales.
As a non-profit organisation, the objectives of ELITE are to promote and develop table tennis within the Australian communities by providing members, especially junior members, with the facilities and opportunities to improve their skills in the sport; and organising training and tournaments at different levels.
Tony Lee said:”Since 2009, our junior players have won 27 Gold Medals in the Australian Junior Championships which includes 15 Gold Medals in team events, 5 Gold Medals in singles events, 3 Gold Medals in doubles events, and 4 Gold Medals in mixed doubles events. Many of our members played regularly at the pennants run by St George & Sutherland Table Tennis Association and enjoyed great success.”
Steven Lee said:”ELITE Table Tennis Club is the first club in Sydney to launch the TTA Spinneroos new initiative and aims to help kids to develop a love for this sport. The first program was successfully run in Term 2 2021, and the next program is scheduled to run in Term 2 2022.”
Steven continued: “Spinneroos is Table Tennis Australia’s Junior Program, and it is designed for primary school children to bounce into table tennis with a smile and a group of new friends. It provides engaging and fun activities in a safe environment in which children can get active, express themselves and create great memories with other Spinneroos. The child will go through 8 exciting weeks of table tennis, receive a personalised equipment pack and develop hand-eye coordination as well as social skills. “
Dr Michael Li, the Director of Table Tennis New South, introduced the rich history of table tennis in New South Wales to Hon David Coleman MP - the 120th years anniversary organised Table Tennis in New South Wales and the 50th years anniversary Ping Pong Diplomacy between Australia and China. Dr Michael Li thanks Hon David Coleman MP for his strong support to table tennis during past decades.
