FOUR NSW PLAYERS SELECTED FOR THE 2022 COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Published Tue 31 May 2022

On 30 May 2022, TTA announced that six para-athletes and the final two able-bodied athletes have been officially selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Games Team.

Four NSW players blessed with courage and resilience have been named in the 14-strong team, the biggest Australian table tennis squad for a Commonwealth Games. They will be vying for gold when representing the green and gold 28 July - 8 August 2022 in Birmingham, England.

This will be the biggest ever table tennis team to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games and the Australian table tennis community can't wait to cheer them on.

Jessy Chen rounds out the list of debutants, and his selection as the recipient of the Kurt Fearnley Scholarship is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his sport. It is believed that Jessy Chen is the first male para player from NSW to compete at the Commonwealth Games during past 2 decades.

Tracy Feng and Chris Yan joined the six able-bodied team members selected after winning the Table Tennis Australia selection tournament in May 2022.

Birmingham will be the second Games for Tracy after competing at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, while Chris heads to his third Games after competing at the Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The able-bodied Table Tennis Team will compete in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and men's and women's teams events. The Para-Table Tennis Team will compete in Men's Singles Classes 3-5 and Men's Singles Classes 8-10 and Women's Singles Classes 3-5 and Women's Singles Classes 6-10.

Table Tennis was initially an optional event on the Commonwealth Games schedule and was first introduced at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games. It’s proven so popular that it now has ‘Core Sport’ status, meaning it will remain on the schedule at all future Games. Commonwealth Games table tennis medals summary by nation:
