Mr Table Tennis - Lester Vibert was the Publicity Officer and the President of the Mounties Table Tennis Club (MTTC) and the instigator of the Mounties INVITATION Table Tennis Tournament. Lester passed away on 8 January 2022 after battling illness for many years, and will be sadly missed.
His contribution to New South Wales table tennis will never be forgotten.
Lester arrived Australia from the Jersey Island of the United Kingdom as a young man and a keen table tennis player. He quickly became the Mounties Club Table Tennis Champion.
Both of the MTTC and the Table Tennis West Sydney (TTWS) awarded Lester the Life Memberships for his excellent work in the committees of both of MTTC and TTWS. Lester held the position of Treasurer at TTWS for many years.
At Mounties, Lester was considered Mr. Table Tennis. Lester served as MTTC & TTWS delegates to TTNSW until it was not possible for him to travel any longer due to his illness.
Amongst the many tasks fulfilled by Lester, he organised the Mounties Club Table Tennis Championships, graded Table Tennis Championships for MTTC members, formatted competition teams for participation in TTWS yearly competitions, and organised table tennis teams for an in house Terry Jackson competition etc.
Lester was the instigator of the Mounties INVITATION Table Tennis Tournament more than two decades ago, initially comprising of Australia wide players. A lot of hard work from Lester, the MTTC committee and the officials of TTA & TTNSW was rewarded with a top class event, impressing the board of Mount Pritchard Community Club to continue sponsoring MTTC events to the present days.
Lester was also Mounties Quinlan Shield Table Tennis team captain. Having success in the Quinlan Shield competition prompted the management of Mount Pritchard Community Club to provide a First Class Table Tennis venue for his MTTC members, which is enjoyed by members and visitors to Mounties.
All at Mounties miss Mr Table Tennis - Lester Vibert. Rest in peace, Lester.
