Ping Pong Diplomacy Tour
Published Wed 26 Apr 2023
H.E. Consul General (Ambassador Rank), Zhou Limin, the Consulate General of the P.R. China in Sydney met Paul Pinkewich, Noel Shorter and
Michael Li before the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Australia.
As witnesses of the Ping Pong Diplomacy Tour to China in April 1971, Paul Pinkewich and Noel Shorter introduced to Consul General Zhou Limin
their historic trip: their story of visiting China, being met by Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai and the friendships between the Chinese people and the
Australian people, when the official exchanges between the two countries have not yet broken the ice.
They showed Consul General Zhou Limin their collection of Chinese and Australian media reports during Ping Pong Diplomacy Tour in 1971, which
had been preserved for more than half a century, expressing their expectation for the improvement of China-Australia relations and their enthusiasm
for contributing to the cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Consul General Zhou said that the Ping Pong Diplomacy Tour in 1971 was of great historical significance and was a manifestation of the desire for
friendly exchanges between the people of the two countries and created a good atmosphere for the subsequent ice-breaking of official exchanges
between China and Australia in 1972.
