THE HEAVIEST TABLE TENNIS MEDAL IN OLYMPIC HISTORY - 12 TONS OF RICE

Published Tue 21 Dec 2021

Kasumi Ishikawa is a Japanese table tennis player. As a regular member of the Japanese national team, she won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, a bronze at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Women's team.

The women’s team silver medallist of 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Ishikawa Kasumi belongs to the Japan National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations (Quannong), and is the contracted spokesperson of Quannong.

Due to the excellent performance of Ishikawa Kasumi, Quannong sent 100 bags of white rice to her as a reward. One bag of white rice is about 60 kg, with a total weight of 6 metric tons. Judging by the amount of white rice consumed by the average Japanese, it would not be a problem that the white rice is enough for Ishikawa Kasumi to eat for a hundred years.

In fact, this is not the first time that Quannong has given away white rice. When Ishikawa Kasumi won the bronze medal in the women’s table tennis team at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Quannong also gave her 100 bags of white rice as a reward. This time, in addition to white rice, Quannong will also give away the “free roasted meat all-you-can-eat” qualification that expires at the end of March 2022. Before the time limit, Ishikawa Kasumi can get free meals at the roast meat shop under Quannong including agricultural products and meats from all over Japan as rewards.

As a left-handed inverted rubber shakehand player, Ishikawa Kasumi primarily uses speedy top-spins and loops in offensive play. In Japan, she has ranked among the five "most-liked" sportswomen every year from 2014 to 2021. Because she is fluent in Mandarin, her popularity has also extended to China. “Choose Sponsors Carefully”.
