Dear Players,

It is with we regret, that we inform you of the passing of Beryl Davies – NSW Veterans Life Member.

Beryl had a distinguished career in Table Tennis spanning the 1960’s to recent, as a player, administrator, fundraiser and volunteer.

NSW & Australian Public Service – Life member of both.

Winning many NSW and Australian titles

Australian titles include:

 Women’s Open Singles – 1969, 1972 to 1974 inclusive

Women’s Open Doubles – 1974,1977 & 1980

Open Mixed Doubles – 1972 to 1974 inclusive – all with Jim Leggatt

Women’s Teams – 1972 to 1974 inclusive

Beryl had a golden period from 1972 to 1974 inclusive winning all titles

NSW and Australian Insurance association – this was another association until the late 1990’s when it merged with the Public Service Association – Beryl continued playing and also won titles at the Australian Insurance Championships.

National titles include:

Women’s Open Doubles – 1993 & 1996

Open Mixed Doubles in 1996 with Ted Davis

Women’s Teams in 1996 & 1997

In 1996 Beryl was accepted into the “World Zoo Club” as the Bumblebee

Beryl was one of the organising committee instrumental in forming the “NSW Veterans Table Tennis Association” Beryl was President for many years and is Life Member – Beryl represented NSW at the National Veterans Championships from its inception until recently. In 2003 Beryl won the O65 Mixed Doubles with Ken Sands.

Table Tennis NSW – Beryl was an active committee member and was Secretary in 1989/90 and was awarded Life Membership of Table Tennis NSW in 2006.

Beryl was active in schools’ development and conducted training days along with her daughter Michelle at Marrickville Tennis Club working with children with disabilities.

Beryl was also active in promoting Para Table Tennis – becoming a Para classifier.

Beryl spent countless hours in organising fundraising during a period where there were no short cuts you physically had to visit potential sponsors etc.

 

Beryl was always at 100% effort, whether playing, organising fundraising or just volunteering Beryl will be sadly missed as a friend, competitor and committee member
