Vale Joe Borg
Published Tue 11 May 2021
Thank you to Peter Higgins for these words on Joe Borg who recently passed away. Joe was initially a member of the Wentworthville Leagues Club where he competed in the Western Sydney competition before moving to the Central Coast in 1978.
Joe was the father of NSW Veterans Association player Theresa Borg and will be sadly missed by the entire family
MEMORIES OF JOE
I first played Joe in 1978 at the East Gosford Progress Hall and, in my 3 years of ‘A’ grade competition at that point I hadn’t played anyone who attacked with anti-spin rubber.
No matter what I came up with, he almost always had some other little ‘trick’ up his sleeve.
We had a few good doubles wins together over the years too, as well as a Central Coast ‘A’ grade teams’ competition with ‘Workers’ that included Harley Cohen, his son Steve and, myself.
I like to think that we had a friendship that was built on mutual respect both as people and, players.
I well remember the fun times I had at the Ettalong Beach War Memorial Club end-of-year presentation nights with Joe, Mary, Alec and, Jean Lee. My deepest sympathies to all the family and, although his departure has left a massive void remember this, he had I think a full life and, has gone to a far better place.
Keep hitting those forehand winners you old bugger!
