VETERAN TABLE TENNIS PLAYERS RECOGNISED
Published Fri 19 Mar 2021
The five veteran members of Team Amigos have been recognised for their long-term association with table tennis by being presented with the Banks Outstanding Sporting Achievement Awards for 2020. The awards acknowledge outstanding sportspeople in the Banks electoral division.
Paul Croft, Desmond Fitzpatrick, Marina Helsingden, Gillian Hutchinson and Joseph Simon comprise Team Amigos, who have previously competed in the St George and Sutherland Shire Table Tennis Association Pennants competition and prove age is just definitely a number and no barrier to participation in table tennis.
These awards were presented on behalf of the Hon David Coleman Federal Member for Banks at the St George and Sutherland Shire Table Tennis Association annual presentation night, held at Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre on December 8, 2020.
The achievements of the team include Gillian Hutchinson representing Australia at the 2016 World Veterans Table Tennis Championships in Spain and Desmond Fitzpatrick winning gold medals at National Veterans Championships in 2003, 2004 and 2013.
The St George and Sutherland Shire Table Tennis Association would like to congratulate all five players for being nominated as worthy recipients of this prestigious award.
If you are new to the sport of table tennis and looking to learn new skills or an experienced player seeking new challenges, St George and Sutherland Shire Table Tennis Association may be right for you. For more information on the club and all the weekly activities, visit www.sstt.org.au.
Veteran table tennis players are invited to attend Active Table Tennis on Monday and Thursday mornings (9:30-11:30am) at Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre. Cost is only $5 per visit.
